An application for visualization of Fermi surfaces.
This application displays Fermi surfaces colored as a function of an arbitrary scalar quantities such as magnitude of Fermi velocities and superconducting gap. It only requires a minimum set of data to draw Fermi surfaces. FermiSurfer provides a simple graphical user interface; the user can smoothly turn on/off the stereogram, nodal-lines, etc.

Demonstration from download FermiSurfer to displaying Fermi surfaces

  1. Download/Install/Launch FermiSurfer [00:00~1:40]

    1. Search on Web with a word “fermisurfer”.
    2. Enter “FermiSurfer Web page” (http://fermisurfer.osdn.jp/).
    3. Go to “Latest File release” which is the latest download page.
    4. Download “fermisurfer.exe” (Binary file for Windows) and save it.
    5. Enter “Partial DOS and Orbital character on Fermi surface” (http://fermisurfer.osdn.jp/table.html).
    6. Click images to download “.frmsf” file and open it.  In this movie, the d-orbital character of Nb is used.
    7. Select previously downloaded “fermisurfer.exe” to open this file.
    8. The program is launched and Fermi surfaces are plotted.
  2. Plot the Fermi surface of Nb with FermiSurfer (Basic) [01:40~02:50]

    1. Mouse drag, scroll, and double click enable as to rotate, zoom, and move objects, respectively.
    2. Change the background color.
    3. Toggle the appearance of the Fermi surface at each band.
    4. Modify to the primitive-zone style. This modification requires us to push “Update” button.
    5. Toggle color bar.
  3. Advanced usage of FermiSurfer [02:50~end]

    1. Change the displayed quantity to the Fermi surface. Then plot with grayscale.
    2. Display the extremal orbit (equator). Change the Miller index to (011).
    3. Increase interpolation ratio to make Fermi surfaces smoother.
    4. Change the lighting only for the unoccupied/occupied side.
    5. Display the section of the Brillouin zone. Change the Miller index to (011). The section can avoid the Γ point.
    6. Shift the Fermi energy.
    7. Use the stereogram (parallel eye, closes eye).
    8. The scale and the rotation angle can be specified numerically.
    9. Nodal line can be displayed.
    10. BXSF-formatted file can be opened directly by FermiSurfer.
    11. Plot the three t2g-orbital character by using the two dimensional plot.
    12. Display the Fermi velocity as a three dimensional vector field on Fermi surfaces.
    13. These input files are simple plane text file.
